Freelance translation jobs? - Not with Nardina ALongi or Greenlandic Translations

With Nardina Alongi - Greenlandic Translations - lots of work but no money 

From the research I have done on the Internet and my personalo experience, Nardina Alongi should be avoided at all costs as a source of freelance translation work. WHY?

(a) In general the work is more than porrly paid  3 to 4 cents per word at best
(b) The deadlines are impossible to keep - up to 25K words in 3 days - technical translations
(c) When it comes to paying the invoice, Nardina Alongi knows every trick in the book to get out of it.

Her former company, it seems, Globale Kommunikation went bankrupt in 2013. She then simply set up another webiste with another name - lingopoly or greenlandic translations and continued to rip off translators. This woman will bombard you with translations - not being a translator herself she seems to have no idea that there is a difference between doing 3 thousand or 30 thouosand words per day. Believe it or not she simply does not seem to get her ahead around the fact that translation takes time.

Secondly, although she maintains the opposite, there is no quality control of the work submitted - not that there would be time for it anyway as everything is a panic, chaotic last minute job to get the work done. She has no reviewers in house and is not capable of reviewing the work herself. She relies on quantity and not quallity to get money. Naturally this is a recipe for suicide as a translation company. Eventually the clients start to moan and then Nardina Alongi can get very nasty with the pooor freelancer. She uses the carrot and stick approach. When all is well plenty of praise and even more work - sometime three projects at the same time for the same day - but when things go wrong she is extremely unpleasant.  Invoices, emails everything is ignored. Then off she goes to find more freelancers who will fall into the trap. I have known her company for many years and it is very strange that she has no team even for common European languages like German to English or French to English.

If you wish to take a look on google about criticism of her policies you will have no trouble finding plenty of examples.

So my advise - do not touch the company and stay well away from Nardina Alongi otherwise you will join a huge number of freelance translators who have lived to regret the day they had anything to do with her.

It has been reported that Nardina Alongi and Globale Kommunikation are insolvent.

Interested piece of insider information here from Martin - many thanky - about what happened to Globle Kommunikation  now operating under the names Lingopoly.com and greelandic-translation.com.

I quote below:

"She and her buddy Peter are cheating at least since 2013 - they still owe me 2500 Euro for various jobs in Sep-Oct. 2013. Peter in charge as the owner of GK tells you that he has a private insolvency since 2011 and can't pay. NA is/was on the payrole of GK till German tax gouvernment seized the accounts at Sparkasse, diverting the clients to greenlandic translaton (in September 2013) runned previously by her daughter (Anna Alongi) who studies in Germany, but with address in USA (which is fake). Greenlandic Translations was then operated (officilally) by a Turkish guy. We warned so many translators and I am shocked that even throughout 2014 so many of them were cheated again by NA."




Well let us just hope that we can help spread the word before more freelance translators get ripped off by the infamous Nardina ALongi.

Why did the company Globale-Kommunikation of translator scammer Nardina Alongi disappear

Why has scam translation site Globale-Kommunikation owned by Nardina Alongi changed to greenland-translations.com?

This is a 1000 dollar question perhaps some freelancers can answer. Why did Nardina Alongi change the name of her company from Globale-Kommunikation to Greelandic translations. Did the company go bust? Were there problems with the tax man. Or was the company simply getting too bad a reputation on the Internet among both clients and freelancers that something had to be hidden?

I do not have the answer but today when you click through the gloable-kommuniation.com link you arrive on a site called lingopoly - it does sound a bit like monopoly - but I am sure that was not the motivation.  I tried to see in the local registry of companies but could find no information.

But now it looks as if greelandic-translations.com is also going down the plug hole as a reputable company. The complaints on Proz.com about greenlandic translations from freelancers are many and varied already for such a young company. It is also banned form posting on Proz.com. Reason - non-payment issues of Nardina Alongi.

I also have a tip that there is another site called icelandic-translations.com which she owns but I need to do so research before I can confirm this.

In all honesty I fail to see how swapping sites constantly can benefit a company - it must raise eyebrows among the clientele about the reputation (and rightly so). No client should contract work from a company which repeatedly finds dubious reasons not to pay the freelance translators who actually does the work.

What also struck me is the incredible turnover in freelancers and the constant search for new ones to do assignments - there is apparently no team but with each new assignment a desperate search for those who are unaware of what they are getting themselves into.

The strategy is once Nardina Alongi has got you in her web she will constantly inundate you with translations sometimes with 3 or 4 projects with deadlines which are impossible to meet .i.e. one of my examples was 25K source words and 15K source words (different topics) from Saturday to Monday morning, She does not take no for an answer and then once you start if you have made the mistake to give her your Skype address she will keep pestering you about the deadline. Very professional you will agree.  

She is admittedly very pleased when you actually deliver quality on time (money in her bank account) UP TO the point where you actually invoice for payment and that is where the trouble starts. And the endless excuses and lies that in my case for example she had already transferred the money three times and it had been returned each time - never once did she produce a proof of transfer to prove it though. Nardina Alongi is simply a scammer and nothing else and really from the outset has no intention of paying in any case.

The CEO, Nardina Alongi is a complete liar and just a bad person that should be avoided. This company also works under the company names GREENLANDIC TRANSLATIONS, BUCHÜBERSETZUNGEN.COM and LINGUAPOLY. They have been banned for non-payment from all major translation sites and dozens of bad reviews from translations can be found on the Internet. Nardina Alongi deserves to go to court.


So please take the advise and report immediately if she contacts you. There are still too many freelancers out there who simply trust the client without checking out for the real scammers. These people should be put out of business - at least. They are a shameful disgrace to the translation industry and parasites living off the work of poor freelancers.

I just past this along to my lawyer but it is really surprising the comments I am getting on this blog about the scam offers of Nardina Alongi - usually sent to me as a private email with the request to remain anonymous as they do not want their names published in relation with Ms Alongi on Google.

Some of the stories I am getting are rather sad and very personal as far as Ms Alongi is concerned and I will not stoop to the level of publishing them anywhere.

I spoke of thebigword today. Nardina was always careful not to pass on details of contacts at thebigword. She made a mistake once and I spoke to a project manager today and asking about the ethics of working with a company that does not pay its freelancers. She was amazed that Nardina Alongi was a company and will pass my complaint on to her supervisor. This is good because I know Ms. Alongi  depends a lot on the monthly payments from thebigword. Hopefully these will soon stop collaboration with her.

First of all I wish she could write something understandable on that iPad - so sloppy.

Good news is I have from Proz.com no less that 8 scammed freelancers who are willing to start a joint case against Globale Kommunikation and Ms Alongi at her place of jurisdiction, Munich. If she thinks we do not mean business she is in for a slight surprise, there are a lot of angry freelancers out there, Ms. Alongi.

Globale Kommunikation, Nardina Alongi and Greelandic Translations non-payment policy.

Beware of the payment terms and conditions of Nardina Alongi and her companies

ALthough the terms and conditions for payment by Ms Alongi are 60 days - they used to be 45 days - this in practice means nothing. She pays if she wants to and when she wants to. Many translators after 8 months and many emails have received no indication of payment or even willingness to pay.

Ms Alongi always finds some excuse:

(1) The work was unsatisfactory

(2) The work was not submitted by the deadline

(3) The client has not paid yet.

Of course, all of this is bulls***. From bottom to top, the freelance translator has no responsibility for when the client pays Ms. Alongi. That is her affair Full Stop.

If work was submitted by deadline this is easily to prove from yor emails.

If the work was unsatisfactory according to her own terms and conditions she has 14 days to inform you of this and to allow you to make any necessary corrections.

In brief, this company is so crazy it actually expects you to work for free and be grateful and not complain. Just translate. 9 out of 10 projects always come with impossible deadlines yet strangely enough 10 days later she will ask again for a file which she cannot find in order to deliver to the client - this happened to me several times - so much for Ms Alongi's deadlines.

All in all, one piece of advice. Do not believe a word the woman tells you. Get everything in writing - at least email and do nto Sype with her or give her your Skype address otherwise she will trouble you endlessly during the day asking for this, that and the other few words of translation.

Best of all avoid Ms Alongi and her companies. They are simply bad news. They pay rock bottom prices and contrrary to what she maintains translations are not reqviewed in-house. They have no quality management structure in place.

The continuing story of Inkasso and Nardina Alongi

Nardina Alongi and Globale Kommunikation (non payers) state I did not send them the bill

Well that was pretty stupid of me. Inkasso contacted me today to say that Ms. Alongi did not receive a bill for the Euro 1095 job of last September. Pathetic excuses these people come up with. She received the bill on 14 October and even acknowledged receipt by email!

 

So obviously she is just playing for time. The Inkasso company has sent her a copy of the bill just to refresh her  memory I suppose. If nothing comes from Ms Alongi in the next few days then we go one step further to a court request for payment and that is where things start to get serious financially for Globale Kommunikation.

I was requested by Nardina ALongi to translate on Trados three large BMW technical manuals. Total fee was Euro 1095 Euros. I completed the assignment within the set deadline to the satisfaction of the client.

Several weeks later Ms Alongi discovered her client, Mr Suzuki Hanuka, was a known scammer and could not be contracted. This was in September 2014. Upon invoicing for the assignment I was told by Ms Alongi she could not pay as the client had not paid. I decided to make use of an INKASSO company. Now Ms Alongi is stating to them that I did not present an invoice - of which I have a copy.

In the meantime I have discovered that any google search with the words "Alongi" and "Globale-Kommunikation" reveal that she is blacklisted everywhere as a non-payer and a scammer.

Be careful, never take work for from this client. You will nto see your money.
